Signals for request stops (Fakultativhaltsignale)

On many minor halts the passenger trains only stop on request. The flashing light shown below indicates to the engineer that someone wants to enter the train. This signal is operated by the passengers themselves.

Depending on local speed these signals are situated either directly at the stop or at braking distance from the stop.

TGV

Genuine french stopping marker board for TGV which is also used in Switzerland.

Annotation to the boards shown in line 4 and 5 in the above table:

This boards have been introduced in 1989, first on the Zürcher S-Bahn. They show the length of a train in steps of 100 metres (the standard Zürich S-Bahn unit - Re 450 + 3 coaches - measures 99.9 m).

Trains which do not fit into the 100 metre-scheme have to »interpolate«: for example if a train is 150 m long it has to stop between the boards »1« and »2«.

In new or reconstructed stations only this new boards shall be used (at least on the Swiss Federal Railways).

Some private railways use this boards with different meanings:

On the SZU the boards show the number of coaches.

RhB see next paragraph.

Rhb (and FO?)

The RhB uses the board ''H'' to show the outmost limit where halting trains have to stop (end of entry route). There can be an additional board for short entries (see below).

H
Fb 6

The board labeled »Fb 6« means, that trains have to stop here, if the entry signal shows proceed aspect 6 (short entry).
