Signals supplementing train signals 1

Auxiliary and track occupied signal

These signals are mainly used at entry signals.
The subsidiary signal is used when the main signal cannot be set to a free aspect (for example due to a failure or engineering work).
The track occupied signal indicates that there are vehicles on the entry route not covered by any signal.

Track occupied (Besetztes Gleis)
Note that the main signal shows proceed aspect 2 and the distant signal is dark. If there is a short entry into an occupied track, the main signal will show proceed aspect 6.

Train control system warns of restrictive proceed aspects

The Swiss train control system »SIGNUM« (sometimes called after its developer »INTEGRA«) warns the driver when passing a distant signal showing »warning« (by a buzz sound in the drivers cabin). At some distant signals the train control system will also warn of restrictive proceed aspects (others than proceed aspect 1*). These signals are equipped with a triangular board shown here (either directly at the signal or in rear of the signal).
Note: this board will no longer be installed, since the train control system nowadays always warns of restrictive distant signal aspects. However, existing boards will remain until modernization of interlockings.

Marker for start of speed restriction in signalling system L

In the signalling system L speed restrictions shown on entry signals applied from the first switch rather than from the signal itself. On May 24th, 1998 (timetable change) this rule was adapted to the signalling system N where speed restrictions always apply from the belonging signal. In some stations, however, this would have caused too much delay. Therefore in these stations the speed restriction applies further on from the first switch (»first switch rule«). To indicate this, the distant signal of the entry signal is equipped with the board shown below (which is nicknamed »Elch« [moose] or »Stimmgabel« [tuning fork]).

Speed restriction applies from the first switch (Geschwindigkeitschwelle bei der ersten Weiche)
The speed restriction on the following main signal applies from the first switch suceeding the signal rather than from the signal itself.
