Zugleitbetrieb (German only)

This form of operation was introduced in order to reduce costs on secondary lines. One centrally located dispatcher regulates the operation of trains.

There are different types of Zugleitbetrieb

Zugleitbetrieb without block system and interlockings

Spring switches in stations facilitate train meetings.

Zugleitbetrieb with block system

The stations are equipped with (group) exit signals and INDUSI. The exit signals are operated by the dispatcher and they are locked when the open line is occupied (which is determined by axle counters).

Zugleitbetrieb with block system and station interlocking

In addation to the block system the stations are equipped with remote controlled switches rather than spring switches. Also the station tracks are monitored by axle counters and there are entry signals. In normal operation the communication between driver and dispatcher can be omitted. For this purpose the exit signals are supplemented by proceed permission signals.
